PARABENS: Studies have found that the biggest risk from parabens seems to be from the use of products that require a prolonged exposure to skin, such as skin creams and facial lotions. The longer that the parabens are on the skin, the more opportunity there is for parabens to be absorbed. When used in skin care products, parabens are absorbed directly into the blood stream rather than through the gastrointestinal tract. One of the biggest areas of concern is the effect of parabens on breast cancer. Several studies have found traces of parabens in women with breast cancer.

MINERAL OIL: Has been linked to Cancer in Government Industry and Academic Studies and Assessments. It has also been linked to Allergies, Immunotoxity, Organ System Toxicity, and Irritation of skin, eyes, and lungs.

ARTIFICIAL FRANGRANCE AND COLOR:

According to Samuel Epstein, M.D. author of “Unreasonable Risk” and founder of the Cancer Prevention Coalition: “We have already seen the escalation of the incidents of cancer to epidemic proportions over the last few decades.” “This is going to increase progressively in succeeding decades unless the public is informed about the avoidable exposures to carcinogens, and given the opportunity to reduce such exposures.” “Mainstream cosmetics and personal care products contain about fifty known carcinogenic ingredients.” You can reduce your risk of cancer and other degenerative diseases by replacing the chemically dangerous personal care and household cleaning products you now use, with biologically safer, more effective products, at very competitive prices.

PHTHALATES: A recent study published in the February issue of Pediatrics looked for detectable phthalate exposure in the urine of 163 infants born between 2000 and 2005.  Over 80 percent of the infants studied had measureable levels of phthalate metabolites in their urine!  Commonly used products among infants with higher levels of phthalate metabolites included baby lotion, baby shampoo, and baby powder.  No correlation was found between high urine phthalate levels and the use of baby wipes and diaper creams.  While in Europe phthalates are banned from use in personal care products and some toys, in the US manufacturers are not required to even disclose the presence of these widely used chemicals in their products.  That’s right, they aren’t listed on the label, making it extremely difficult to measure levels of exposure and study the effects of phthalates. Arbonnes's ABC baby, containes none of these harmful ingredients!

PROPYLENE GLYCOL: A cosmetic form of mineral oil found in automatic brake and hydraulic fluid and industrial antifreeze. In the skin and hair, propylene glycol works as a humescent, which causes retention of moisture content of skin or cosmetic products by preventing the escape of moisture or water. The Material Safety Data Sheet warns users to avoid skin contact with propylene glycol as this strong skin irritant can cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

PABA: Paba is a nitrosamine forming agent that can cause cancer. Research in Sweden links the chemically made sun blockers to skin cancer. So the paradox is that they should prevent skin cancer but they may also be the cause of it. So what is the alternative? Thankfully Arbonne products are Paba FREE!

PARAFFIN: Paraffin and other waxes are used in toiletries and cosmetics as a moisturizer or emollient. They are used as spa beauty treatments and are also edible as they are widely used on fruits, vegetables, and candy to make them shiny and pretty as well as to retard moisture loss and spoilage. Liquid paraffin has been known to cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, muscle weakness, paralysis, dizziness, convulsions, euphoria, anemia and cardiac dysrhythmias.

PETROLATUM: Petrola Impurities in Petroleum Jelly or commonly known as Vaseline, under suspicion as a carcinogen in Breast Cancer - Petrolatum Banned in products in the EU - Long term damage to health becoming evident - side effects from the impurities in the manufacturing process implicated in causing cancer!

 DIETHANOLAMINE: A foaming agent widely used in personal care products such as shampoos, hair dyes, and bath products. These products generally contain 1 to 5 percent DEA or DEA-related ingredients. DEA can also be found in some pesticide formulations, as a so-called inert ingredient. This agent comes from coconuts. Products containing DEA may be contaminated with nitrosamines, some of which may cause cancer, if the product contains nitrites as a preservative. Nitrosamines may accidentally contaminate DEA-containing products as well.
